Fixed-price service

SQL Server Pipeline Health Check

A read-only review of the SQL Server automation your business runs on: Agent jobs, linked servers, stored procedures, T-SQL, PowerShell, permissions, and wait and blocking diagnostics. Fixed price, written findings, no changes to your servers.

Who it is for

Mid-market firms, wealth management firms, and RIAs that run reporting, reconciliation, and data feeds on SQL Server, often built up over years by several people. If nightly jobs fail quietly, a linked server holds credentials nobody remembers creating, or month-end runs slow down without a clear cause, this review gives you a written picture of what is there and what to fix first.

What is reviewed

SQL Server Agent jobs

Inventory, owners, schedules, failure history, step types, retry and notification settings, and jobs that fail without alerting anyone.

Linked servers

Providers, login mappings, RPC settings, timeouts, and mappings that grant more remote access than the job needs.

Stored procedures and T-SQL

Error handling, transaction use, XACT_ABORT, unbatched writes, dynamic SQL built by string concatenation, and other risky patterns.

PowerShell

Scripts called from Agent steps: credential handling, error handling, proxies, and what account they run as.

Permissions

sysadmin membership, job and proxy owners, orphaned users, xp_cmdshell status, and least-privilege gaps.

Waits and blocking

Wait statistics over a sample window, blocking chains, and the queries behind them during your busy periods.

SSIS packages are out of scope. The review covers T-SQL, SQL Server Agent, linked servers, and PowerShell.

Process

  1. Intake. Email [email protected] with the subject "Health Check". We agree on the instances in scope, your SQL Server versions, and what worries you most.
  2. Access, your choice. Either grant a read-only login (VIEW SERVER STATE, VIEW ANY DEFINITION, and read access to msdb job tables), or I send you the scripts and you run them and return the output. Nothing is written to your servers in either case.
  3. Review. I go through the output against the checklist used in SQL Rig for SQL Server.
  4. Report within 5 business days of receiving access or script output: findings ranked by risk, the evidence for each, and a specific recommended fix.
  5. Walkthrough (Standard): a 60-minute call to go through the findings with your team.

Who does the work

Scott Coffey, Senior Database Developer and author of SQL Rig for SQL Server. The diagnostic scripts are the same tested T-SQL and PowerShell used in the pack.
